A Sky-High View

the Fairmont Pacific Rim promises spectacular views

By Sarah DiVito | March 16, 2010

Distant white peaks of the North Shore Mountains, fishermen lounging on the docks, white boats lining the harbour, and the Pacific Ocean’s deep blue tides crashing against Vancouver’s waterfront. These are some of the amazing views from the rooms at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel that is nestled along the ocean’s edge.

The Fairmont, a brand-new hotel, has two main features that are sure to attract guests: the elegant interior and the spectacular views.

Designed by the CHIL group, the interior design captures “west coast elegance with an Asian flair,” describes Richard Negrin, a principal at CHIL. The hotel rooms and suites are absolutely exquisite in terms of décor and services. The rooms and suites are luxurious with most of the designs based on streamlined furniture pieces, clean woods and lavish fabrics. Incorporating the natural beauty that surrounds Vancouver, the Fairmont’s rooms bring the city’s natural landscape but also silvery champagne tones for some elegance. All rooms and suites have marble bathrooms and gadgets like a bedside touch panel and a 42” flat-screen TV with surround sound and 20 HD channels that are all at your fingertips.

The second feature that makes the Fairmont stand out are the views. Nancie Hall of the Fairmont Pacific Rim says, “The location and our offerings are quintessential Vancouver. We are connected to Stanley Park via the promenade, with views of the North Shore Mountains and the harbour. Our location is within easy walking distance to the shopping boutiques of Robson Street and Gastown. Business travellers can walk to the Vancouver Convention Centre without going outdoors, and the Cruise Ship Terminal is a stone’s throw away.”

Each guestroom has similar décor and services, and though the view varies, it still frames all the different facets of Vancouver scenery. Architect James K. Cheng explains, “It doesn’t matter if you are a tourist or a local, it’s the beauty of the views that captures your attention and your imagination.” Here are three different viewpoints of Vancouver you can look forward to.

If you love the ocean and would enjoy hearing the sound of boats clashing against the dock while watching fishermen and boatmen bustle along the harbour, then the Fairmont Pacific Rim’s luxurious guestrooms and Harbour View Suite are the perfect accommodation. They have 377 guestrooms that are spacious, elegant and comfortable, with most of them overlooking the harbour. The Harbour View Suite has a similar stunning view of Coal Harbour’s port. However, guests can relish the scenery from the private patio in these 800 sq. ft. corner suites.

The pool terrace is a sight to behold, complete with cabanas, palm trees and a waterfall pool. It is a place to relax and get lost within the city. The Pool View Suite is one-of-a-kind in Vancouver because these one-bedroom suites feature private patios with outdoor fireplaces that showcase views of the property’s signature pool terrace. Waking up from your king-sized bed to sleep in the pool’s comfortable lounge chairs seconds away has never been any easier.

Finally, if you want to see everything — all sides of Vancouver — the Fairmont has incredible suites that encompass a multitude of sights. The Harbour Mountain View Suite, Signature, Presidential and Chairman’s Suites are all distinct but each one features spectacular views of the Coal Harbour, Stanley Park and the snow-capped North Shore Mountains. The Presidential Suite provides “the luxe life” with their 2,230 sq. ft. of lavish luxury in the sky, their breathtaking panoramic views from the floor-to-ceiling windows and the large private patio. The Chairman’s Suite is a one-of-a-kind two-storey glass masterpiece that features floor-to-ceiling views from the northwest corner of the hotel. It also has exclusive access to a spacious and private rooftop pavilion featuring a reflecting pond, outdoor fireplace and cabana that connects to an 1800 sq. ft. landscaped rooftop terrace.

Among these amazing suites and Vancouver’s landscapes are the five-star services and privileges. They provide three main restaurants ranging from Oru, a pan-Asian bistro, to a café/bakery/deli called Giovane. With award-winning executive chef David Wong, the delectable culinary imagination and taste is something to write home about.

Other services include high-speed wireless Internet access throughout the hotel including the distinctive double-height lobby, fully equipped 4000 sq. ft. fitness facility, spa, babysitting and pet-friendly policy.

With Vancouver being the site of the Olympics and tourism skyrocketing in recent years, this spectacular place is a must-visit. The hotel opened this February, so book your reservations at the Fairmont if you are planning on visiting Vancouver and would like to completely appreciate the city’s beautiful landscape. •
