Explore the Art of Fashion

Two of the greatest worlds known to humankind will take the stage during the Art of Fashion 2010 show, to be held during Toronto’s Nuit Blanche festivities on Oct. 2. Art of Fashion is a not-for-profit organization that helps aspiring designers (both clothing and accessories) launch their future careers by providing them with the platform they need to expose their talents. It was created in 1998 by Michelle Planche, president of Paradigm Events. This year, the show makes its 12th debut and will showcase pieces from its theme, called La Belle Époque, or “golden era.” Ten of Canada’s up-and-coming designers will pay homage to the era’s motif of decadence, elegance and luxury during the fashion show and competition. ... Blog on Blogs: Wedding Photography

A recent hobby of mine has been looking at wedding photography blogs. A principle of photography is that an image that depicts a good story can make up for poor technique. So when you have heartwarming stories with professionals there to capture every second, the result is stunning. This is a niche I didn’t even consider until I recently saw a friend link this blog on Twitter. I was dazzled by all the wonderful moments and the obvious emotion that came through every vibrant photo. This is all one Toronto-based photographer’s photos, so here’s one of the best parts: He can be hired by you. I’m definitely keeping this blog in mind for whenever my big day arrives. (Apparently, I’m proof another great thing about these blogs is that they easily... MORE

Impeccable Summer Looks

Oh, glorious sun.  Not only do you warm me and brighten up my days, you bring out the inner fashionista.  Summer weather is not a comfortable experience for everyone. And that’s understandable. There are obvious pluses and negatives to the soaring temperatures.  Still, my senses and wardrobe can’t help but be inspired. If a little heat is the price to pay for the freedom to wear my favourite shorts, sandals or airy dresses, then let it be. While some may seek the comfort of shade this season, I choose to embrace the wide choices in colour, shape and textures there is to find in summer clothes. After all, it won’t be long before it’s time to pack away some of my favourite pieces. Some, I... MORE

A Good Read

All of the “necessary” technology we surround ourselves with, freaks me out a bit sometimes. I’m part of a generation that once lived without many fancy gadgets, but is still tech-savvy enough to own a whole lot of them now. I know what it’s like to walk around without an iPod, and I can still remember not owning a computer — or owning a computer without Internet connection. Now, I don’t know how well I’d function on a day-to-day basis without a whole cache of gadgets. Laptops have become one of those, can’t-leave-the-house-without-it things, and unfortunately, big-ticket items like that are targets for theft. However, one company is offering a stylish solution to that problem. The BookBookby ... MORE
