Crave-Worthy Valentine's Treats

February 12, 2010

If you’re rushing around thinking of something to get your significant other, stop fretting! Everything you need is probably in your kitchen already. Baking is a wonderful way to show your spouse that you put time and effort into their gift.  It will have sentimental value and also satisfy their sweet tooth.

For people who have a sweet tooth (who doesn’t?) and can’t say no to candy and sugary desserts, here are several delicious Valentine’s Day suggestions:

Style at Home has a delectable recipe for lollipops – yes lollipops. It may be a candy traditionally for children, but this treat also looks lovely when wrapped and to be perfectly honest, every person has a child hidden within them. They are incredibly simple to make, believe it or not, requiring only a few ingredients.

I personally am a sucker for cupcakes. They are extremely delicious and you can write letters and draw shapes on them to personalize the treats. Or, FamilyFun has heart-shaped cupcakes with real buttercream frosting. My mouth is watering already…

To make something really endearing, try Sweet Fortune Cookies.  Topped with sugar and filled with love messages, this recipe from FamilyFun is a scrumptious and fabulous way to personalize and satisfy a sweet craving.

If you’re more of a chocolate lover, here are a couple of specific Valentine’s Day treats for you and your spouse to indulge in.

Style at Home has a recipe for chocolate Valentine’s Day cookies. If you’re a dark chocolate fan, these ones in particular are a dark-chocolate shortbread cookie heart made with almonds. Even though it’s essentially a simple cookie, it has an extremely rich taste because half of the heart is dipped in succulent dark chocolate.

Peanut butter cups, also from Style at Home, are very simple to make, requiring only four ingredients and yielding 48 peanut-butter cups—enough to last you past Valentine’s Day… Well on second thought, maybe not. Your significant other can pop these into his mouth and be satisfied for the whole night.

Whatever you choose to bake and whoever you choose to bake for – whether that be for a boy/girlfriend, friend, family member or yourself – you are sure to enjoy the tastiness of any of these treats.
